This
is probably the most popular gun of the series for all-around hunting.
It is the usual choice for species like Yellowtail (Kingfish), White Sea
Bass, small to medium Tuna, Wahoo (Ono), Amber Jack, Dorado (Mahi), Trevally
(Ulua), and bottom fish like large Grouper, Snapper, and Black Sea Bass.
The heavy 64” One piece Teakwood stock and
3/8” shaft allow an effective range of over 23 feet when using the
maximum sling tension of 450 pounds. The very close fitting “U”
shaped track gives lateral support to the spear shaft, resulting in excellent
accuracy at this power level without the need for a fully enclosed track.
The trigger mechanism is rear mounted with the
power bands attached as far forward as practical, providing the longest
possible band stretch for the gun length. The handle is positioned farther
forward for good leverage with the trigger mechanism actuated by a time
tested lightweight pushrod and trigger slide.
The 3/8” spear shaft, available in two lengths,
72” and 65”, is well suited for hunting large fish, as the heavier
weight improves penetration, and the large diameter is stiffer and less
likely to bend. The shorter length shaft may be more appropriate for fish
like Grouper and Amberjack that tend to “hole up” and bend shafts
or for hunting in low visibility or close quarters. The longer 72”
shaft will have a slight edge in range and penetration.
