| The
breakaway eyelet is typically recessed into the rear of the gun stock on
the side away from the diver and is held in place with a single screw. It
is made of 304 stainless steel and accepts a 9/16” diameter tapered
rubber friction plug, which can be easily made up from pieces of old power
bands and a length of nylon cord.
The break away eyelet is used in conjunction with
floating or trailing line systems. The end of the shooting line is held
under slight tension on the gun by the friction plug, which is inserted
into this eyelet. The plug is pulled free when a speared fish reaches the
end of the line. At this point, the gun is separate from the fish and float
line rig. |
