The Inshore Gun

scroll down for menus . more info

This is a very accurate, user friendly, mid-range gun. The modest 54” length and light 5/16” spear shaft make handling quick and easy. The forward location of the trigger mechanism allows the diver to quickly cock the bands with the butt of the gun on his hip or weight belt. With 250 pounds of sling tension, an effective range of 15 feet is easily achieved; (that’s 3 standard 9/16” bands or 2 hi tension “Green” bands.) The gun stock features a close fitting, “U” shaped track designed for a 5/16” by 57” spear shaft.

Typical applications for the Inshore Gun include reef and beach diving in kelp and medium to low visibility conditions. With the handle removed the gun will fit in most fishing rod travel containers for easy air transport. Popular target species include Yellowtail, White Sea Bass, Calico Bass, and Halibut. It is my favorite gun for the in-and-out style of Kelp Paddy diving where the fish aren’t skittish and a lightweight, fast loading gun is an advantage. Many divers set this gun up with a reel for no-hassle beach/Kelp diving.

The Inshore Gun comes standard with a 5/16 x 57” shaft including 3 cocking fins and threaded end for tips using 5/16 NF threads, Three standard 9/16” power bands with “Tuna Cord” wish bones and 400 pound test Jinkai Monofilament shooting line. The line can be rigged to either a low-drag, 5/16” slide ring or to the hole in the forward cocking fin.
